Budge Budge College was established on the 10th December 1971 at Achipore with the   purpose of imparting meaningful education to the student of the locality who had to   face serious problems in respect of admission in different Colleges in kolkata. It had a   small beginning. The College, at first, started in the domestic house donated by Late   Rani Bala Dhar with a very limited number of student, teaching and non-teaching staff.   Subsequently, it was shifted to Senpukur (Budge Budge) wherein classes were held at   a residential building donated by Late Charu Bala Dasi, wife of Lata Nagendra Nath   Das. At that time the University of Calcutta granted affiliation in pre-university (Arts &   Commerce) & B.Com Pass Course. The College got extension of affiliation in 1973 in B.A   course. Subsequently, Honours courses were introduced in Accountancy, English,   Bengali, Political Science, History, Education, Geography, Philosophy, Zoology and   Botany. In the Science stream, both Bio and Pure Science are taught in the college in   general course. The courses are well organized to provide a wide spectrum of choices   to the student. The optional courses allow students to choose a particular field   according to their areas of interest. In this way, the infant institution of 1971 has now   grown into a full-fledged Degree College. It has over the years carved a name for itself   in providing quality education in the subjects taught. The college attained its 25th year   in 1996-97 and the silver jubilee was celebrated with due solemnity by the silver jubilee   celebration committee.

The College has been of immense help to the students of neighboring places who on previous occasions had to attend Kolkata Colleges under various compulsions. Now they get facilities of higher education in the locality where they live or reside.
Development is a continuous process. The College authority is fully aware of this end with this end in view various efforts are also being made to open subjects in new emerging areas such as Microbiology, Bio-Informatics, Biophysics, and Computer Application. At the same time, consolidation and expansion of the infrastructure are also other objectives of the College. Besides imparting conventional education, the attention of the College has also been focused on other multifarious activities of social sphere. In the meantime the College in collaboration with BrainWare also provides effective and modern computer education to the needy students of the locality. Under the aegis of Bugde Budge College Health Service is provided by the Students’ Health Home with its regional center at Budge Budge Municipal Hospital. The British Institute with its center at Budge Budge College offers conversational English course to the students of the College and of the locality with a very nominal fee. The College in collaboration with the Life Insurance Corporation of India has also launched the Student’s Safety Scheme under which students are covered against death, total or partial loss of limbs, or eyes and disablement.
